An artist since childhood, I continued learning through all kinds of art making. Now, painting and printmaking, teaching classes, hosting, and facilitating art events are all important to me. Showing & selling my work plays a part in completing the creative circle.
Water media was my concentration for years, watercolor being prime, and acrylic awesome for textures and layering. In the last decade, I’m exploring soft pastel, a dry media composed of pure pigment with a little binder. I use a wet media underpainting in watercolor, ink, acrylic, or printmaking upon which to build dry pastel layers. The result is a combination of effects.
I paint landscapes in our verdant state of Maine, the trees, the coast, our waters that hold some reflective secret. The changing sky, shifting lights, glowing hills, and each winter’s monochromatic compositions present challenging subjects that are a joy to consider. I love to paint interiors, abstracts, and still life.
An artist's history and emotional memory reside in paintings.
In 2019 I served as president in the Pastel Society of Maine. I’m an exhibiting member of Art Space Gallery in Rockland, Maine, and a member of Upcountry Artists.
